Mortise and Tenon refers to a type of joint in woodworking. It also refers to the group of craftsman, headed by Rob Kartholl, that is refinishing all the century-old salvaged wood in our Kitchen.

Building a green kitchen, we are not using any toxic strippers, stains or varnishes. This means that stripping and refinishing very old wood takes time. A lot of time. A lot more time than you would think. Rob and his team are painstakingly sanding and staining every piece. It’s tedious work, and work that has been challenging, where Rob has had to learn as he goes. The result is beginning to reveal itself, and it’s stunning.

I am deeply grateful to Rob and his team for all they are doing in the Kitchen.
