Our Past Life: Logan Square Kitchen offered a beautiful private event space that supported a commercial kitchen available to small food businesses.
Known as a "shared kitchen," LSK gave food entrepreneurs access to a commercial kitchen on an hourly basis--long before they need or could afford one. As a greenhouse for little businesses, we gave culinary talent a place to develop.
Our dining room was available for small weddings, corporate meetings, cocktail or cooking parties. Hosting events here supported our local food economy. We were the only LEED Gold private event space in Chicago, certified by US Green Building Council.
LSK hosted public events to celebrate our local food community, showcasing chefs and food artisans. It served as a vessel for education about sustainability, our food system and green buildings.
Logan Square Kitchen was a labor of love for many wonderful people. Three years in the making, its designers and builders transformed a vacant foreclosure into an inviting and vibrant gathering place. In May 2010, we received LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council, the second highest rating for a green construction project. Now that our business has closed, we're proud to have the Chicago Diner operating its second Chicago location in our space. We're delighted to have Chicago Diner in our neighborhood, and proud to offer our neighborhood a repurposed building with a vital business operating in it.
We worked hard to create a space that honors our past, celebrates our present, and stewards our future. We look forward to continued work that heals our local food system. The obstacles are great, but anything really important is difficult. We are very lucky to be able to do work that is so very important and meaningful for us.
